Payment is typically processed at the time of your appointment.
How to Access Your Medicare Rebates
Medicare provides rebates for mental health care services when you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.
1. Get a Referral from Your GP
If you don't already have one, see your local GP to get a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral. Your GP will assess your needs and create a tailored plan.
2. Book Your Counselling Session
Contact us to book your first session. You'll pay the full session fee at the time of your appointment.
3. Submit Your Medicare Claim
After your session, we can process your Medicare claim on your behalf or provide you with the details to claim directly through Medicare online or the Medicare app.
4. Rebate Paid to Your Account
Your Medicare rebate will be deposited directly into your nominated bank account, usually within a few business days of processing.
The Medicare Process Step by Step
Get a Referral from Your GP
If you don't already have one, you can see your local GP to get your referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan. This plan outlines your treatment goals and allows access to Medicare rebates.
Book Your Counselling Session
Contact us to book your first session. You'll pay the full session fee, but your Medicare rebate will be reimbursed to you after the session.
Provide Your Medicare Documents
Bring your Mental Health Treatment Plan and GP referral to your first session, or email them to us beforehand. This will provide you access to Medicare-rebated sessions.
GP Review After 6 Sessions
After your 6th session, your counsellor will communicate with your GP who may provide a new referral for an additional 4 Medicare-rebated sessions if clinically appropriate.
Note: Medicare allows up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year under the Better Access initiative. After your initial 6 sessions, your GP will need to provide a new referral for the remaining 4 sessions.
Private Health Insurance
If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to claim a portion of your counselling fees through your health fund.
Our practice is not affiliated nor partnered with any specific private health companies. However, our mental health professionals may individually be recognised and accepted by your private health policy.
- Check if your health policy or extras cover supports mental health services provided by an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker or a Certified Counsellor
- After payment for each session is completed, we will provide you with a paid invoice that includes all necessary details
- Contact your health fund directly for specific benefit details and coverage amounts
Please note: It will be your responsibility to submit the claim with your private health provider.
Cancellation & Non-Attendance Policy
We understand that plans change. Please review our policies below to help us serve all our clients effectively.
Cancellation Notice
We require at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer the time slot to other clients who may be waiting.
Late Cancellations & No-Shows
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice, or missed appointments without prior notification, may incur a cancellation fee of up to 100% of the session cost.
Why We Have This Policy
Your appointment time has been reserved specifically for you. When appointments are cancelled at short notice or not attended, it means another person who could benefit from that time misses out on receiving care. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
